World Aids Day 01 December 2010
1000 Hills Community Helpers

World Aids Day is about increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. It is important to remind people that there are many things still to be done about HIV.

The Gift of the Givers team paid a visit to 1000 Hills Community Helpers in KwaZulu Natal. Their aim is to improve the lives of children and adults infected and affected by chronic illnesses such as HIV/AIDS. The facility has a computer room, library, children's school up to grade R, a toddler's creche and a separate baby creche. There is a kitchen where they prepare and serve meals to approximately 400 - 1700 people per day, as well as a clinic with a nursing sister, enrolled nurse and a pharmacy and dispensary.

GOTG distributed Ice Tea, Sibusiso Ready Food Supplements and Unilever Hygiene Packs. The team was accompanied by Philippa Barnard, Dietician of Sibusiso Ready Food Supplements, who introduced the team and explained how best to use the Ready Food. Later the Checkers Soup Kitchen arrived providing a meal for 400 people.
