Gift of the Givers

Winter Warmth 2010
The world's greatest showpiece has come to our continent and we embraced it whole heartedly; the earthquake in Haiti shocked the world and South Africans stood up to be counted and the world's media and populations took notice. It is time now to stand together yet again but for our own vulnerable populations. Winter Warmth 2010 is here and was launched on 13 May 2010, in what promises to be the biggest campaign ever.

One of the poorest areas in South Africa, Olievenhoutbosch, in midrand, is the target area for the launch; 3500 people will receive new blankets, new clothing and will be fed a hot meal at 09:30 tomorrow, extension 13 at Philena Primary School. The Gauteng MEC for Health will grace the launch of this huge social responsibility event.

New CSI partners, Shoprite/Checkers will be the collection point in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West and KwaZulu Natal. Distributions will take place in these five provinces and Western Cape initially.

The campaign is different this year in that:
  • New blankets will be distributed.
  • New clothing will be distributed.
  • Recipients will be fed at each distribution site. In Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West and Western Cape, the hot meals will be prepared in Gift of the Givers kitchens. In KwaZulu Natal, Checkers has dedicated 2 trucks, which are mobile soup kitchens, to our campaign.
  • Food Parcels will be distributed in selected areas.
  • High energy and protein supplements will be distributed to selected HIV/AIDS, TB and Malnourished individuals.
Our media partner in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North West, as usual is Jacaranda 94.2 fm, who have been doing a sterling campaign over the past 3 years. Media partners in the other provinces are in negotiation with us to make this the most inclusive, heart rendering, compassionate, merciful and loving Winter Warmth campaign ever, where all South Africans of means, embrace each other with the view of embracing South Africans who are destitute, cold and hungry.

All South Africans, including government, media, corporates, professionals, educational institutions, sports bodies, women groups, smme's, taxi associations, individuals, in short the entire country and even Diplomatic missions and foreign visitors are invited to help make a difference to the lives of the poor and to touch someone's heart and soul.

Contributions of blankets, new clothing, any relevant warm items and any non perishable food items can be inserted into the "GOLDEN TROLLEY" at Shoprite/Checkers stores, at Jacaranda 94.2fm premises or at any of the Gift of the Givers offices in Pietermaritzburg, Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Blankets are R40 each and a 100 000 are on standby already; those wanting to support the purchase of these specially manufactured green and yellow Gift of the Givers blankets which are extremely warm and durable, can deposit into Gift of the Givers, Standard Bank, Pietermaritzburg, A/C 052137228, Branch Code 057525.
