In commemoration of Mandela Day (Saturday, July 18, 2009), Gift of the Givers in partnership with the Presidency and the Department of Social Development hosted a luncheon for 1000 elderly persons at Ivory Park, Johannesburg. Special guests included President Jacob Zuma, the Minister of Social Development, Ms Edna Molewa and the Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Noluthanda Mayende-Sibiya. Gift of the Givers handed out 1000 food parcels, 1000 winter packages - which included two blankets, hats and scarves - and 25 new wheelchairs to elderly physically challenged individuals at the event.
