Storm in Bulwer November 2009

On 6 November 2009, at approximately 14h30 the Ingwe municipal area experienced substantial rainfall with a hail-storm for a period less than an hour. The disaster occurred as a result of the strong winds that took place within Bulwer which mainly affected the following areas around:

  • St Charles, Nkwezela, Macalagwala clinic, Diepdale & Ncwadi.

The incident caused severe damage to dwellings, access roads, power lines, natural vegetation and injured a number of people with 1 fatality reported. The incident displaced a number of people from their homes as strong winds uprooted huge trees and caused roof tops to blow away.

Update

After another successful delivery in Badeen yesterday, our youth team had a major mishap at 3am today in Pakistan on the way back to Karachi. The car carrying Gift of the Givers chief coordinator, Neelum Sayed, and three others, skidded on flood affected roads, capsized twice and landed in water. Ph 0800786777 for further details.
