Floods in Taung 2006
Torrential rains caused floods in Taung late February 2006, lasting over 2 months. The people of Taung were left stranded and homeless as bridges were washed away and roads impassable. Even wood was too wet or too destroyed making it impossible to cook in some areas.

Gift of the Givers responded with speed to the plight of the flood affectees with an aid package worth R2 million. The package included:
  • Food Parcels
  • Sibusiso Ready Food Supplement
  • Blankets
  • New Clothes and Shoes
The hundreds of rotting carcesses posed a health risk to people accustomed to drawing water from the rivers and streams. Water purification sachets were also distributed to purify 200 000 litres of water.
