Gift of the Givers

Floods in Mpophomeni 1999
On 15 November 1999, Gift of the Givers came to the aid of the disaster struck Mpophomeni community in Howick who became the victims of flash flooding. One person was confirmed drowned after heavy downpours caused a local river to flood, break its banks and ravage the Mpophomeni community. 200 families were left displaced with only the clothes on their backs.

GOTG relief package consisted of:
  • mattresses, blankets, plastic buckets and dishes
  • soaps, detergents, towels, toothbrushes and paste
  • candles
  • disposable nappies
  • beans, maize meal, rice, sugar, oil, salt
  • canned fish and jam
  • spices
  • fresh meat, chicken and fruit
  • bread
