Gift of the Givers Responds to KZN Floods

As the flood waters continue to rise in the rural surrounds of Ladysmith and Newcastle, Gift of the Givers teams have deployed in the region, delivering food parcels, bottled water and blankets to several displaced families in the Ladysmith region. A far greater response is planned for tomorrow (06 Jan) in areas 10km away from Madadeni Hospital, Newcastle, and other regions of Ladysmith. Relief packages will be dispatched to assist 300 families housed in various shelters in these affected areas and in some cases, directly at the site of the floods as many distraught people are clinging on to their life's possessions and are reluctant to leave their homes, in spite of the imminent danger of rising flood waters.

Hot, freshly prepared meals, hot drinks, hygiene packs and new clothing are additional items that comprise the relief package. Poverty stricken people were extremely grateful for the various items distributed today. KZN MEC of Social Development, Meshack Radebe, who was touring the region, acknowledged our teams involvement and conveyed government's gratitude for the rapid, generous response.
