Jowhar Hospital

More than 20 years of state collapse and protracted conflicts has left the health system and formal and informal civil protective mechanisms in ruins in south-central Somalia. As a result, international and local non-governmental organisations have been operating under difficult conditions to fill this critical gap.

The Jowhar District Hospital was built and donated by Somali Diaspora in November 2014 to serve vulnerable mothers and children in the Shabelle region. It was later handed over to Gift of the Givers in 2016.

Gift of the Givers is the only institution providing comprehensive health care and nutrition to more than 355,000 people in the Jowhar, Balcad and Warsheikh districts. The team has 5 mobile units that reach up to 100 villages around Jowhar district. We have the only facility in the area where patients can be visited by physicians, receive major surgical and emergency treatments and have access to laboratory and diagnostic services.
