In the period October 2001 to April 2002, Afghanistan suffered the ravages of war and the effects of a devastating earthquake. Gift of the Givers was actively involved in both crises delivering essential aid to victims in various areas of Afghanistan. In addition to this, Meat Distribution, as a special project, was undertaken during the Islamic festival of sacrifice.
Immediately the war broke out, Gift of the Givers dispatched a team to distribute the following items:
- all weather tents.
- tons of medicines to hospitals in Kabul and Quetta.
- tons of food including rice, dhall, vegetable ghee, milk powder, tea, sugar, flour and baby milk.
These were distributed in Kabul, Mazar-e-Shareef, Herat, Kandahar, Ghazni and Spin Boldak.
In February 2002, a special distribution of meat was carried out in various areas to commemorate the Islamic festival of Eid-ul-Adha, even under very trying circumstances for Afghani civilians.
In April 2002, following an earthquake, 7500 families (82 500 individuals) benefited from our assistance to Nahreen, in the Province of Baghlan.
