| The World Cup - Our Sentiments |
|
It has been a truly memorable experience. Neither the prophets of doom and gloom nor highly sensationalist negative international media could destroy OUR world cup. Yes this is Africa's, South Africa's, but more importantly OUR world cup, and as South Africans we took ownership of it with a passion. As a nation we stood head and shoulders above all nations, embracing each other as humans, not permitting out history, our perceptions and our prejudices to cloud our patriotism. We hugged and danced with each other, donned ourselves, our vehicles and our buildings with the most exquisite of patriotic paraphernalia, and vuvuzela'd our way into the hearts and souls of hundreds of thousands of tourists and into 32 teams including our very own, Bafana Bafana. South Africans embraced tourists and international teams alike, packing stadia and fan parks to capacity, supporting tourists and "their" teams, even dressing in their colours and capturing their hearts and minds. Yes, South Africans, as a nation we have been great, we exceed our own expectations and for the first time government, media, sports administrators and the public, spoke with one positive voice. It has been the most positive, life changing, nation building experience of all time. Lets live in it, savour it and carry it into the future, as a nation in our attitudes, behaviour and relationships with fellow human. Next: Grassroot Soccer Development - The Way Forward
