Gift of the Givers Careline's volunteers consists pre-dominantly of women. Over the years it has become a tradition to celebrate Woman's Day during the month of August at their monthly forum.
At this forum the focus is on celebrating their, womanhood and honouring that 50% of the population that makes such a tremendous contribution to making this world a more harmonious place. Woman are natural nurturers but ironically forget to nurture their own souls. It is with this in mind that Gift of the Givers Careline seeks out special people with special talents to nourish and nurture this God given quality of women.
These forums have been in the form of talks, seminars and experiential workshops. In 2007 the volunteer counsellors tapped into their creative skills of acting and staged a dramatic schetch, “The Four Faces of Women”. This schetch portrayed how a woman starts as an innocent young girl, free to frolick in the fields and experience true freedom. No sooner that she becomes this beautiful grown woman, does she have to conform to the social constructs that a woman represents. She is forced into a mould of the “traditional woman”. This is where she rebels and challenges culture and traditions and becomes the “modern woman”. Constantly engaged in this outer battle to prove herself in a male dominated world and experiencing inner conflict. She feels pressured by the juggling between being a sucessful working woman, fulfiling her role as wife, mother and the many other roles society expects of her. Finally she metamorphosis into the Shakti Woman ie The Powerful Woman. Her struggles along her journey has made her wiser and more beautiful. She stands tall and regal, with poise and pride.
In 2008 the guest speaker was Tessa Mills Green. She is an Empowerment coach running her own company called “Woman of Worth”(WOW). Tessa having gone through her own journey was an inspiration to our woman. Her main message was that woman need to define their own worth and not measure themselves by the value that the male figures in their lives attribute to them.
In 2009, Veresha Padyachee from the Tibb Institute of health ran a workshop on Mind ,Body and Soul Balance. A huge part of the workshop involved personality audits. The counsellors had fun as well as benefitted greatly on a personal level whilst achieving a heightened understanding about people's behaviour, a valuable in counselling.
After the workshop, in true Gift of the Givers spirit, the counsellors were lavished with gifts and treats. The celebration ended with one of the counsellors reading a poem written by herself dedicated to all women. The poem is entitled “We Can ”.
Gift of the Givers Careline gets invited to address various groups, do motivational talks and presentations regarding issues pertinent to women. One such function was where Zohra Sooliman was the keynote speaker at the launch of Women in Business (WIB), Raisthorpe branch.
For Gift of the Givers Careline, uplifting our women who reach out to others in distress, our prerogative is to ensure that their emotional and psychological wellbeing is taken care of. Our position as having access to people, in their most vulnerable states, is both humbling and honouring and the lessons from this, we believe, is important to share with the many out there to encourage women to continue growing in this female strength as it serves her with increasing loyalty.
